IV bolus

Dilute 1 ampoule (10 mg/ml) with 2 – 20 ml of diluent (concentration: 0.5 – 5 mg/ml). May also be given undiluted.

IV infusion

Dilute 1 ampoule (10 mg/ml) with 10 – 100 ml diluent (concentration: 0.1 – 1 mg/ml). Usual infusion concentration: 1 mg/ml.

Administer using infusion pump or PCA pump. Titrate dosage to provide adequate pain relief. Can be given IM, SC, Intrathecal and Epidural

Remarks

Repeated IM injections are not recommended due to painful administration, variable absorption and lag time to peak effect. Repeated SC administration causes local tissue irritation, pain and induration.
